Guru Ravi Das
 Guru Ravidas était un contemporain de Kabir au XVe siècle et, comme lui, était originaire de Bénarès. Ravidas a critiqué les aspects rituels des cultes pratiqués tant dans l’hindouisme que dans l’islam. Il soulignait le caractère éphémère de l’existence et l’imminence de la mort ainsi que l’importance de la véritable dévotion à Dieu par la pratique intérieure de l’écoute du Nom ou du Son, sous la direction d’un Maître. De ses poèmes, qui se caractérisent par un langage franc et réaliste, se dégagent son humilité authentique, son amour pour Dieu et son expérience de la souffrance de la séparation. Parmi ceux qui sont inclus dans cet ouvrage, bon nombre abordent les aspects mystiques fondamentaux de Sant Mat tels que la nécessité d’un Maître vivant, la dévotion au Nom, le végétarisme et la loi du karma. Ravidas was a contemporary of Kabir in the fifteenth century, and was also from Banares. Ravidas criticized the ritualistic forms of worship practiced in both Hinduism and Islam. He stressed the transience of life and the imminence of death, and the importance of true devotion to God by listening to the Name or Sound within, under the guidance of a Master. His poems are marked by bold, down to earth language and are infused with his true humility, love for God, and the pain of separation that he experienced.
