इस पुस्तक में एक जिज्ञासु के अपने आध्यात्मिक गुरु के लिए की गई उसकी जीवन भर की तलाश का वर्णन है। उसकी तलाश तब पूर्ण हुई जब वह भारत में आकर अपने सतगुरु महाराज सावन सिंह जी से मिला। लेखक की सजीव वर्णनात्मक शैली तथा उसके द्वारा प्रस्तुत की गई जीवन की विविध मनोरंजक झाँकियों के कारण यह पुस्तक कई दशकों से पाठकों के लिए प्रेरणा का स्रोत बनी हुई है। यह मुख्य रूप से 14 पत्रों का संकलन है जो लेखक ने 1932 से 1933 तक अमेरिका में रहनेवाले साथी शिष्यों और जिज्ञासुओं को लिखे थे। इन पत्रों में लेखक ने महाराज सावन सिंह जी के साथ बिताए गए अपने व्यक्तिगत अनुभवों का वर्णन किया है। डॉ. जॉनसन ने सतगुरु से प्राप्त हुई आध्यात्मिक शिक्षा का उल्लेख बड़े श्रद्धापूर्ण ढंग के साथ किया है।

A seeker tells of his lifelong quest for a spiritual teacher and the fulfilment of that quest when he met his Master, Maharaj Sawan Singh, in India. The author's vivid descriptive style and anecdotal writing has made this book an inspiration to readers over the decades. The main body of the book consists of 14 letters written in 1932 and 1933 to fellow disciples and seekers in America, which provide a firsthand account of life with Maharaj Sawan Singh, who was affectionately known as the Great Master.
