ਸੰਤ ਤੁਕਾਰਾਮ

ਸੰਤ ਤੁਕਾਰਾਮ, ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਮਹਾਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਹਰਮਨ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਕਵੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 1598 ਈ.ਵਿਚ ਪੂਨਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਪਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੇਕ ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਸ਼ਟ ਸਹਾਰੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਅਕਾਲ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸੀ। ਬਚਪਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਤੁਕਾਰਾਮ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਰੁਚੀ ਪਰਮਾਰਥ ਵੱਲ ਸੀ , ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਤਰਾਸਦੀ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ। ਆਪ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀ ਦਇਆ-ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਈ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਧੁਨ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਹੀ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਗ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਪਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਚ, ਝੂਠ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ। ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਤ ਤੁਕਾਰਾਮ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਜੀਵਨ ਚਰਿੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਦੇ ਹਨ।

Tukaram is one of the most popular poet-saints of Maharashtra, India. Born in Poona (Pune) in 1598 into a family of farmers and merchants, he endured a hard life, which included the deaths of all his family members from famine. As he was spiritually inclined from childhood, this personal tragedy acted as a catalyst for his increased meditation and ultimate God-realization. In his poetry he speaks of being "drunk in the celestial melody" revealed to him through the grace of his Master. Of his own teaching he said, "I come to illumine the way to God and to distinguish the true from the false." This volume contains many of Tukaram's poems introduced by a short biographical sketch.
