धनी धरमदास

धनी धरमदास बांधोगढ़, उत्तर प्रदेश के एक धनी व्यापारी थे। बचपन से ही उनका झुकाव प्रभुभक्ति की ओर था। कबीर साहिब के संपर्क में आने से पहले वह परंपरा से चले आ रहे विभिन्न धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों और मूर्तिपूजा में लगे रहे। कबीर साहिब ने धनी धरमदास को नामसाधना की दीक्षा दी और बाद में वह उनके उत्तराधिकारी बने। इस पुस्तक में उनकी कुछ चुनिंदा वाणी ली गई है जिसमें मनुष्य जन्म के उद्देश्य और देहधारी सतगुरु की आवश्यकता पर विशेष बल दिया गया है। सतगुरु की शरण में आए बिना कोई मुक्ति प्राप्त नहीं कर सकता। धनी धरमदास उपदेश देते हैं कि शब्द अथवा नाम प्रभु से मिलाप का एकमात्र साधन है। यह हर जीव के अंतर में है। शब्द या नाम की साधना द्वारा ही जीव परमात्मा से मिलाप कर सकता है।

Dhani Dharamdas was a rich merchant in Bandhogarh, Uttar Pradesh. The honorific dhani attached to his name attests to his wealth and prosperity. Showing a devotional bent of mind from early childhood, he practised traditional rites, rituals, and idol worship until he met Kabir. Dhani Dharamdas was initiated by Kabir into the practice of the Word and later became Kabir’s successor. This book presents a selection of Dharamdas’s poetry which emphasize the purpose of human birth and the importance of a living master. Without taking the refuge of the master one cannot attain liberation. Sant Dharmadas explains that the Shabd or the Word is inside everyone and is the only means to unite with the Lord. One has to engage in Shabd practice to experience God-realization.
