एक प्याला रेत का

जब आपको लगे कि कोई चुनौती या लक्ष्य आपके सामर्थ्य से परे है तो आप क्या करेंगे? बच्चों की यह कहानी आनंद देने वाली उन आश्चर्यजनक घटनाओं को उजागर करती है जो उस समय घटती हैं जब आप बस क़दम उठाएँ और जो कर सकते हैं, वह करें। ज़लीना अपने परिवार में सबसे छोटी है लेकिन जब दादाजी उसे बताते हैं कि नदी का जलस्तर बढ़ सकता है और गाँव में बाढ़ आ सकती है तो वह काम में जुट जाती है। यह जानकर कि रेत की बोरियों की एक दीवार गाँव को बचा सकती है, ज़लीना एक-एक प्याला रेत से बोरी को भरना शुरू कर देती है। आँटी ज़लीना पर हँसती है। उसके बड़े भाई और बहन को लगता है कि वह मूर्खता कर रही है... जब वे ख़ुद देखते हैं कि नदी का जलस्तर वास्तव में बढ़ रहा है तो वे भी इस कार्य में शामिल हो जाते हैं। जल्दी ही गाँव के सभी बच्चे दीवार बनाने के काम में जुट जाते हैं। कुछ ही देर में सभी लोग वहाँ पहुँच जाते हैं और नदी के किनारे दीवार बनाने के लिए पत्थर और रेत की बोरियाँ ढोने लगते हैं। क्या सभी मिलकर यह काम करके गाँव को बचा सकते हैं?

What to do when faced with a challenge or goal that seems far beyond your ability?  This story for children celebrates the wonders that can happen if you just take action and do what you can. Zalina is the youngest in her family, but when Grandpa tells her the river might rise up and flood the village, she gets to work. A wall of sandbags would save the village, so she starts filling a burlap sack, one cup of sand at a time. Auntie laughs at Zalina. Her big brother and sister think she's being silly... until they see that the river really is rising! They join in, and soon all the children in the village are working on building a wall. It's not long before  all the adults are there, hauling rocks and sandbags for the wall by the riverbank.  With everyone working together, can they save the village?
