इस पुस्तक में आदि ग्रन्थ में दी गई गुरु नानक की उत्कृष्ट रचना सिध गोस्ट और बारह माहा नाम की दो वाणियों की विस्तृत और स्पष्ट व्याख्या की गई है। सिध गोस्ट में गुरु नानक देव के सिद्धों के साथ अलग-अलग स्थानों और मुलाक़ातों में हुए संवाद का उल्लेख है। मनुष्य-जीवन से संबंधित सिद्धों के बड़े गंभीर प्रश्नों के उत्तर देते हुए गुरु नानक उन्हें समझाते हैं कि मनुष्य को घरबार त्यागकर संन्यास लेने की ज़रूरत नहीं है। उसे समाज में रहकर अपने सामाजिक तथा नैतिक कर्तव्य निभाने चाहिएँ और संसार से अनासक्त रहते हुए प्रभु के नाम में लिव लगाए रखनी चाहिए। आदि ग्रन्थ में हमें बारह माहा नाम से दो वाणियाँ मिलती हैं, एक राग माझ में गुरु अर्जुन देव की और दूसरी राग तुखारी में गुरु नानक देव जी की। इस पुस्तक में दोनों गुरु साहिबान ने बारह महीनों के बदलते हुए मौसम का आधार लेकर जीवन की बदलती परिस्थितियों की व्याख्या की  है। दोनों में पत्नी आत्मा की प्रतीक है और पति परमात्मा का। इसमें बताया गया है कि जैसे विरह में तड़पती पत्नी को केवल पति के मिलाप से सुख प्राप्त हो सकता है, उसी तरह युगों-युगों से परमात्मा से बिछुड़ी आत्मा को सुख केवल उसके साथ मिलाप से ही मिल सकता है।

This book contains an extensive elaboration of Guru Nanak Dev's well-known masterpiece Sidh Gost and two Baarah Maaha compositions within the Adi Granth. Sidh Gost is based on Guru Nanak's dialogues with the siddhas in a number of meetings at different places. Responding to the Sidhas on the most profound questions related to human existence, Guru Nanak explains the path of inner detachment and a life of devotion to God's Nam while meeting one's social and moral obligations and remaining part of society. In the two Baarah Maaha compositions first, by Guru Arjun Dev in Raag Majh and second, by Guru Nanak Dev in Raag Tukhari, the two Gurus use the backdrop of the changing moods of nature that are characteristic of each month of the year to emphasize the inner agony and yearning of a love-sick bride separated from her spouse, symbolizing the longing of the soul for union with the Lord.
